Clinical Center staff gathered in the FAES Terrace on Oct. 26th for a 'Journey to Magnet Excellence' festival hosted by Magnet ambassadors. Some came to learn more about the Magnet program and others came to see what all the commotion was about. All those who passed through and engaged with the hosts were rewarded with lighthearted games and educational content.

According to the American Nurses Credentialing Center, Magnet recognized organizations demonstrate excellence in nursing practice, high quality patient outcomes and exceed robust benchmarks for the safety of patients.

Magnet recognized institutions experience decreased mortality rates, shorter hospital stays and better all-around patient outcomes.

The Clinical Center's Magnet ambassadors set up tables to display key aspects of the Magnet program's accreditation process and used games to engage attendees. Each station had an activity such as cornhole or velcro darts, and each had opportunities to learn about various Magnet program themes or goals.

During the festival, attendees were given a paper passport to receive stamps from each table station and were asked to return the passports when complete for a Magnet-themed prize.

For more than two years, the Clinical Center Nursing department prepared the application for the Clinical Center to be recognized as a Magnet-accredited organization. Nursing leadership have been gathering data and writing the submission documents, and this event was an opportunity to highlight their effort in a fun and inclusive way.

The NIH Clinical Center submitted its formal Magnet application in January 2023 and a final decision from the Magnet accreditation organization is anticipated by the Winter of 2025.
